A Fashionista in Marrakech… With a carry on? REALLY? YES! In my personal opinion, a fashionista should look effortless and chic - even when travelling! Of course, there is always an exception like when one is travelling for months! But personally, I find it easier to just have a carry on: it is quicker to pack, lighter to carry around and most of all, faster to unpack! To do this, one just need to be creativity and playful as I have done to my recent visit to Marrakech, Morocco.
I went to Marrakech for a week during the Ramadan period as it is the only time I can make it. It is important to highlight this as it has affected how I packed. For those unaware of the Ramadan, it is a religious Muslim practice of fasting for 30 days. This means abstaining from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking, and engaging in sexual relations. How does this affect me as a tourist? My outfits! As a visitor to someone else's home, I always make sure I'm respectful of their practices and this included dressing properly. I must style myself with minimal skin display despite the super hot desert weather! It is not that difficult as when you think about it the locals or those practicing Ramadan cannot even drink water!
Does this mean this is not a good time to visit? From my personal experience, it was more interesting! Restaurants are still open and food is available as needed. One just have to be aware of certain timings like the break period where they go back home and have a meal with their family.
Now let us talk about packing. I would like to start with my beauty kit as this is what I'm asked most. Let me take you step by step.
STEP ONE: Know Your Limit
Beauty products come in different forms including liquids! The current Canadian law states 'All containers of liquids, non-solid food and personal items must be 100 ml/100 grams (3.4 oz) or less and must fit in this bag. The approximate dimensions of a one litre/quart bag are 15.24 cm by 22.86 cm (6 in. by 9 in.) or 20 cm by 17.5 cm (8 in. by 7 in.).' To be honest, this is all too confusing and complicated. To keep things simple, just visit your local drug store (in my case Shoppers Drugmart) and grab a set of travel toiletries like this:
STEP TWO - A: Layout Your Regime: Make up
I do my layout in two categories to make sure that I do not forget anything. The two categories are make- up and skincare.
I will start with make up as it is easier. This are my essentials and they come with whenever I travel:
I'm unsure if this palette is discontinued but it has 90% of my make-up needs except for foundation and mascara. This palette has all the eye shadows I love, blush and bronzer that match my tone, two eye liners _brown and black), lipsticks and a universal tone lip gloss! Plus it comes in a compact magnetic casing that makes it perfect for travelling.
I love this Korean BB cream as it is 3 in 1: Primer, Foundation and most of all SPF 50. Packaged at 40grams in a sealed pump bottle, this is your best foundation for travelling! The product itself glides nicely and has a medium to full coverage that one can thin out:
I got this mascara as a free sample from Sephora and it worked perfectly for me: full volume wand water proof. And the great thing is you can purchase this size at Sephora.
Best make up remover ever as many of you will agree! It is so popular that it comes in three sizes all suited for individual needs.
And as for the tools, I just have my two eye brushes, a powder brush, lip brush and curler that I normally have in my kit at home.
STEP TWO - B: Layout Your Regime: Skincare
Using the travel toiletries mentioned above, I decanted the following products to it:
Though my foundation already has an SPF, it is never bad to layer underneath with this. This is a must in my skincare and make up sits very well with it. I transferred this to the two small rounded tub.
Sunscreen over the face is as equally as important for the body. This is what I regularly use and never failed me. I poured some of it to the small spray bottle for easy application.
An amazing none sticky serum that I got from my points in Sephora! Sephora has a lot of minis and samples that I always collect for travelling purposes. But if you want this specifically, it is available at eBay.
I brought 10 sheets with me and refrigerated them. I use them every night including during flights to keep me hydrated. Airport security never questioned me about this so they are very practical!
STEP THREE: Ziplock
I packed all my skin care, foundation and micellar water in this Ziplock of this size making sure I'm within limits.
Not too bad right? Let me know your travelling essentials and how you pack them. It is always good to share information. Upcoming blogs are about my outfits presented through a color catalogue.
