Your Heart Will Sing For Singapore! (This Is Why)

by | 2019-01-23

Modern yet still full of culture, that is the city-state of Singapore! It's a cool place to visit if you get to see the best attractions and sample the myriad of cuisine that it offers. With this guide, you can have the best time, it is so good, in fact, your heart will sing!

Your journey to Singapore

There is both good and bad news when it comes to traveling to Singapore from Canada. The good news is that for a location in Asia it's not that expensive for a flight. The bad news is that direct flight are like hen's teeth and that means you are looking at a journey time of at least 20 hours, and that is only after you have got to the airport and through security! Luckily, Singapore is a location that is well worth this initial sacrifice, a fact that you will see confirmed in the information below.

Where to stay

Just like any trip that you are organizing, the first thing that needs to be decided upon is where you will stay during your visit. Happily, Singapore is a large modern city, and this means that there are almost infinite accommodation choices available.

The first option is to stay in the larger and more well-known hotels, with Marina Bay Sands being particularly popular like I did! It has a massive rooftop infinity pool that boast a spectacular view across the city! But that is not the only high-end accommodation offering either, as Singapore does luxe very well!  In fact, there are plenty of places to stay and be pampered like the  Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, the Swissotel Stamford Singapore or Park Regis Singapore are equally good.

However that is if you don't fancy spending a whopping $349 a night per night, there are some other options to consider as well. One of these is to find a house for rent in Singapore that is located in one of the city suburbs. This can be  a cost-effective option, that also allows you to feel much more integrated into typical city life.

Of course, it's worth noting that for folks unaccustomed to exotic locations the vast array of wildlife and greenery in even the most basic of Singaporean gardens can be a real treat. Especially, as you can sit outside and cool off in such as space after a long day of sightseeing.

What to wear

Once you have your accommodation out of the way, then it's time to get down to the real nitty gritty of touring the city. For this, I recommend some seriously sensible and comfortable walking shoes because there is a lot to do in Singapore, and you will want to stay comfortable all day long.

Remember too that the humidity there can get quite high, so clothing that is light and made from materials such as cotton can help you to stay dry and cool, even in the warmest and most muggy weather.

Marina Bay

First on the list of anyone visiting Singapore is a trip to Marina Bay. There you will find some of the cities most salubrious hotels including Marina Bay Sands, as well as The Garden by the Bay, the site of the famous cloud forest and supertrees. The latter being large structures lined with solar cells that collect energy throughout the day, which is then used use to light the park and put on a rather impressive laser show come 7.45pm in the evening.

In fact, this part of Singapore is one of the most contemporary and has an almost an almost futuristic feel. Something that makes it a great place to walk around and just soak up the atmosphere.

Universal Studios Singapore

Although, Marina Bay is not the only must-visit location in the city either. In particular, taking a trip to Universal Studios Singapore is something that will be not only fun but memorable.

There you can expect some rather impressive film sets in which shows are performed daily including the one from Water World. There are also characters from your favorite Universal movies in costume walking the park, including the Muppets, Shrek, and those from How To Train Your Dragon, and there are plenty of rides for the thrill seekers among you as well.

In particular, you may wish to give the HUMAN vs. CYLON™ coaster a go. A ride based on the  Battlestar Galactica franchise and one that is said to be the tallest rollercoaster in the world!

Of course, there are plenty of more-gentle rides to try out as well including Magic Potion Spin, and Madagascar: A Crate Adventure. Oh, and if you happen to have little ones with you, they are bound to enjoy the massive climbing wall adventure that can be found in the park as well.

Singapore Flyer

Next, if you are looking to combine a ride with some culture, then a trip across to Raffles Ave to visit the Singapore flyer may be in order. This 165 m Ferris wheel provides stunning views across the entire city, and you can easily pre-book your tickets online you don't have to wait when you arrive. The best thing about it is that each carriage is air-conditioned and located on the outside of the wheel too, something that means no matter where you are in the cycle you always get a full view of the city in all its glory.

Singapore Zoo

Another popular attraction in the city is the world-famous Zoo Located on Mandai Lake Rd. The thing about this zoo is that is creatively built not only to provide the perfect habit for the animal it contains, but also to give visitors the sense of being out in the wilds of the rainforest. In fact, you can take a night walk in the rainforest area, have breakfast with orangutans, and even stay over if you desire, making the Singapore zoo one of the most interactive well worth a visit if you find yourself in the vicinity.

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

Lastly, don't forget that while there are many existing attractions to see during your visit of Singapore, it's also a place that is steeped in culture and history as well, and it would be a shame to miss out on this!

In particular, you will want to pay a visit to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum which is built in the traditional Tang dynasty-style as said to host a holy relic of Siddhartha himself.

Inside you will find a lavish interior decorated in red and gold, with intricate statutes and carving lining both the altars and the walls. Something that, as you can see from the video below makes it quite spectacular, and most definitely a spot that will make your heart sing on your visit to this glorious city.

Hope you enjoyed this and have fun if you ever visit this dynamic country!
